As the founding partner of Freight Brokers International Corporation, and The FBI Group, Frank continues his long and extensive career in logistics.
Starting in 1984 as a Sales Representative of G & W Freightways, Frank’s responsibilities bridged between sales and operations. Servicing the Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal corridor, Frank dealt with rating services, sales, customer maintenance and at times the call of duty would extend to the dock. Attending to the busiest business corridor in Canada served to be a significant learning experience and provided a solid foundation for understanding the domestic Canadian less-than-truckload (LTL) & truckload transportation market.
In 1986, Frank turned his focus to local logistics solutions accepting a position with Laidlaw Waste Systems providing waste disposal solutions to small business and large enterprises in the Toronto area. Two years later Frank returned to North America’s busiest corridor as a Sales Representative of Chi-Can Freight servicing clients from Wisconsin to Quebec. Growing opportunities and gaining a knowledge base regarding the intricacies of cross border LTL and truckload freight, Frank maintained extensive interaction with his clients and honed his customer service approach.
Opportunities to gain firsthand experience with “hub and spoke” freight management, Frank took a position with Yellow Freight Systems in 1990 servicing Canada and the United States. Using a “hub and spoke” service model to create efficiency in the intensive LTL environment demonstrated that listening and having a complete understanding of the client’s expectations was critical maintaining customer loyalty; it’s something that has stayed with Frank throughout his career.
With one customer and a small home office, Frank launched FBI in 1992. FBI was born with a vision of providing better customer service and the ease of moving goods more efficiently than the traditional common carriers. Soon after, his brother John joined the company and they quickly began growing the business one customer at a time. Since then, FBI has grown into a full service cross border logistics company expanding its breadth of services to include white glove deliveries, pick-pack-redistribute and customer built mobile warehouse solutions.
John’s climb to Senior Partner at The FBI Group started from a summer job as a shipper at G & W Freightways in 1985-1986. John has really learned the industry from the docks, on a forklift, in the back of a transport trailer, one skid at a time.
After a few years working in retail sales and at Canada Post, John returned to the transportation industry as a sales representative for Carolina Freight Carriers Corporation in 1990. John’s clients were US and Canadian companies shipping cross border less-than-truckload volumes. Two years later John joined CanAm Freight Services that provided LTL and truckload solutions throughout North America.
Since John joined his brother Frank in 1993, The FBI Group has grown into a sizable firm by devoting personalized attention to each customer, bit by bit, to each load and with each truck. Building transportation solutions for a variety of freight class types, mixed volumes and across a wide geographic area, FBI is a full service logistics company that has customers from single shop manufacturing firms to Fortune 500 enterprises.
